Whale Sound listed at Duotrope

A nice surprise out of the blue. An email from the folks at Duotrope saying:

“Dear Editor (me?!): We are writing to inform you that we have added a listing for Whale Sound to our free, online resource for fiction writers and poets.”

Here’s the Whale Sound listing. Do go over and report your responses from Whale Sound, O best and beloved submitters.

  1. Congratulations! I didn’t know they were ever proactive like that, but I do like Duotrope a lot. At qarrtsiluni, we went so far as to tell Poet’s Market to bugger off, because we don’t believe cash-strapped poets should have to buy an annual directory when DD offers a superior service for free that writers can and should make better by using. Its only shortcoming is that it doesn’t include creative nonfiction markets.

    1. Poet’s Market needs to get with the program, but I have to say that the online poetry world is really really schizophrenic. For many (most?) of us, it’s a hobby and labor of love; for others it’s literally a paycheck – usually those looking for teaching jobs and/or academic advancement, but also for the rare few who actually sell enough poetry to make a living. The online world simply doesn’t distinguish between the amateur and the professional, and they come together like hot and cold currents. And fog ensues. Maybe we need to label ourselves better.
